The women’s lacrosse team defeated Scranton with a score of 15-5 in Landmark action on a windy Saturday.
The victory was the home opener for the Crusaders, and the win improved the team’s conference record to 2-0.
The Crusaders (3-3 overall) saw three players turn in hat-tricks in the win.
Freshman midfielder Kelcie Ehler, senior midfielder Michelle McGinniss and junior attack Meredith Crane all finished with three goals, while senior midfielder Emma Ehler and junior attacker Brynn Reid finished with two scores.
Sophomore midfielders Becky McHugh and Annie McElaney both helped in the victory cause by scoring one goal apiece.
Sophomore goalie Alyssa Rothman recorded 14 saves on 21 Scranton shots, picking up her second victory of the season.
Rothman said that the team was very excited for their first home game of the season.
“Walking out onto home turf drives you,” she said. “You know all the fans will be out to give you their support.”
Rothman, who is also the goalie on the Crusader field hockey team, said that the wind can have an effect on the game.
“I know I need to put more power into my throw because of the wind.” Rothman said.
The Scranton game was the first of Ehler’s career.
Coming off of a back injury, she took advantage of her scoring opportunities and began her Crusader career with a boom. She scored two goals in the first half and one in the second.
The Crusaders will travel to Drew for a Landmark Conference matchup Saturday, March 29 at 3 p.m.
